Research: Loneliness in Mental Illness

Research: Loneliness in Mental Illness

For my research in Loneliness I am going to post 1 area in which we experience loneliness per week and see how people feel in each area. Love to hear any thoughts, quotes, books etc

Last week I asked about Loneliness in leadership and I heard from leaders across the country about their struggles.

This weeks area is looking at loneliness in mental illness. This is a close one to my heart as I think much of my loneliness comes from my journey with anxiety, depression, panic attacks etc. Mental illness makes us live within our own heads and for me often separates from the world around me.

Love to hear any thoughts. You can post in the comments on all social media, this blog or send me an email/PM.

Thanks

To me this is a huge thing in the world we live in. I come from a family line that suffers greatly with depression. Even in my current situation going through a separation, I’ve had some very hard days.

One advice I don’t really like hearing, is how it’s just mind over matter. Almost incinuating that you can just beat depression with your mind. To me when I feel depressed I feel like my mind is being clouded over which in turn doesn’t always help in making the most rational decisions. I’m on anti-drepressents which there are many people who don’t understand how they really work. They help your mind to counteract the feeling, to help you cope easier with the hard stuff. They don’t completely remove the depression.

I have really just been encouraged lately though, that whatever I/you may be dealing with, ultimately God is the ultimate source of healing in anything.

I truly think when it comes to these illnesses we allow our circumstances to have control over our minds, telling us we aren’t good enough or whatever. Some people have better coping mechanisms than others, as well. Sometimes people don’t allow these thoughts to get the best of them, and they portray themselves as being stronger, when in fact sometimes those feelings might just be getting compacted deep down inside, till the next biggest obstacle comes along, and bang!!!

We all need help, which I believe is the key in all of this, whether you have dealt with that reality or not. Some people have come to the realization they need help. Others have allowed themselves to become ticking time bombs just walking around.

Anyone who says they don’t need help, are delusional in my opinion. They have bought into some lies depending on their situation.

We are supposed to feel free in Christ, yet He still says in His word that in this world, we will have troubles.

I’m not denying the fact, that you can feel free and completely happy, but if you are denying the fact that there will still be some hard times, I think there is work to be done.

To me if we are denying the fact that there will be hard times, we are allowing something completely false to dictate ideas to us.

When something does go wrong, what then?

Hope I’m not missing the just of this completely.

I just truly believe that these illnesses are of the devil. Satan truly hopes that these illnesses don’t leave. Satan also works through people on the other side of the spectrum trying to make us believe like the false prophets tell us that if we are a Christian we will be healthy and wealthy and when it doesn’t look like that, the evil one has us in his cross hairs.

We all need to see regardless of what our situation is, we all need help.
