Talks Testimonials Media.Faith.Culture

Media.Faith.Culture

Brett was extremely well received at our first Girl Stuff conference, where he spoke to just over 60 girls/women of various ages from 12 - 80? This was very insightful for everyone, and extremely challenging spiritually as well. Brett was very well informed, and knowledgeable about the things he was talking about. We had a high school guidance department head present at the talk that was very impressed with Brett's talk. I have had nothing but positive feedback from people, who just want him to come back and talk to the rest of our congregation !! It was great. Thanks so much Brett.

~Dale Whyte

We invited Brett to speak to our students and parents on faith, media, and culture. The talk with the students really challenged them to think about how they personally connect media (what movies they watch and what songs they listen to) with their faith. He asked some hard questions and, judging from feedback from some parents, he connected with them because they came home and discussed these things with their parents.

Later that evening, Brett spoke to the parents on the same topic. Again, he challenged them to connect with their children and guide them into make good decisions about their walk of faith.

Brett spoke with passion and with conviction. The best part was that he didn't just leave us hanging - he gave several practical suggestions on how to move forward.

Recently we had Brett Ullman at our school for his media.faith.culture presentation.  It was fabulous!  For 85 minutes he had a captive audience of 500 grade seven to twelve students. Rarely will our students be captivated for 30 minutes let alone 85. I had numerous students and parents comment that "This was the best speaker we have ever had". The message was powerful and the impact substantial. We are already making plans for Part II next year.

Once again, our school and parent community were informed and challenged by Brett Ullman. Our staff, parents and students were informed about the changes in the content of various forms of media and we were challenged to find ways to live our faith amidst these changes. The grade 7 and 8 students were appreciative that Brett spoke to them as young adults on topics that are a part of their life experiences.

I’ve had the pleasure of hearing Brett speak to students and parents several times, and he never disappoints.  His approach is realistic and straightforward.  He does the leg work in assessing media with a critical eye and from a biblical viewpoint.  He marries the current trends in media, faith and culture in a way that actively engages students visually, auditorily, spiritually and emotionally , without judgment.  His references to his own life experiences make him easily approachable and this help him to connect with students on a very human level.  He encourages open and honest dialogue among parents and teens.  He inspires young people to leave a legacy of service, respect and commitment to themselves and others.  I would recommend this to anyone who needs the confidence to challenge the so-called norms in today's media and to gain an increased awareness of the influences and sensitive issues that surround us.

This is the second time we've had the opportunity to have Brett Ullman speak to our students about media, faith and culture. My students immediately accepted Brett's challenge to live our faith and to make positive changes in our world, and they have begun a mission to provide farm animals for the needy in Africa. That's the power of Brett's talk. He will challenge and move both students and adults to become selfless, rather than selfish.

To call Brett's talks relevant is a huge understatement.  He came with an authoritative, "time-to-cut-the-crap" mentality that engages youth powerfully to the topics, on media, faith, culture, dating, etc.  Most impressive is Brett's integrity to his topics outside of the seminar hall.  Well-equipped, well-researched, well- spoken, these talks are relevant, powerful, and provoke many to confront the hard issues around them.

Brett came to our little town last year. It was great having him here. He is a great speaker that knows how to talk to teens. He's presentations are up to date and "cool" enough even for the teens. He knows what to talk about and how, often we cannot find the right words or language to communicate with our teens. Brett will get the discussion going. Thanks and come again.

~Markus

I thought your presentation at Carruthers Creek Community Church was amazing. It was very informative and helped me make some huge changes in my life especially for relationships (dating) and taking steps back and setting boundaries. I am so glad i went to see your presentation, you are extremely gifted and had me on the edge of my seat wanting to hear more. I find it that most speakers are somewhat afraid to take on the subjects that you take on but you sure did a great job in covering everything for me. Once again, Thanks!“

~Patrick. Stelmaszyk

I've heard a lot of talks at a lot of conferences. Not all of them make a difference. When Brett spoke at our university fellowship retreat, he brought the issues that people in my generation and culture really struggle with, mixed with enough grace and understanding to leave you thirsting for change. His talks opened up lines of conversation and community that I've often prayed for, and helped bring healing to many students in our group.

Open and honest the way teenagers want to and need to hear the truth, that's what sets Brett Ullman apart. I dare you to try his seminar - you will never listen to music or watch TV the same again.  If only more youth speakers were this engaging.

Brett came to my church and spoke to my midweek senior high group. His presentation and connection with the media culture had a direct impact to many of the youth who were there. His challenge on music, internet, and even some of the harder issues like cutting allowed us as a ministry to respond to what many youth experience whether themselves or with a friend every day. I would highly recommend Brett as a speaker, he was organized, direct, and knowledgeable to a degree that I could not meet myself without using him. The experience overall was very positive.

I’m always nervous having a guest speaker tackle the topic of media, faith, and culture; however, I was very impressed with the way you handled this extremely tricky yet important topic.  I appreciated the way you went straight to the heart of the topic and brought out the real issues behind it!  You masterfully touched on every core problem our kids struggle with in a way that grabbed their attention and encouraged them to take the first step towards spiritual and emotional health.  Since your time with us – we have been able to have some very meaningful conversations with our students.  Thank you!

Brett Ullman has an extremely important ministry that helps teens, teachers and parents understand and address current issues in North American media and youth culture - and he does it from the standpoint of a clearly biblical worldview. Brett has had a powerful ministry with our senior elementary and high school students and teachers all across Ontario and in the Maritime provinces. Any church, school or parents' group would be blessed by his presentations.

I’ve had the privilege of working with Brett on several occasions over the past few years, and his ability to communicate to a diverse range of audience is exceptional.  Brett has excellent information within his presentations, but it’s his effort to not simply spoon-feed information, but to challenge students in their approach to media and cultural discernment, that I really appreciate as a pastor and father. Brett will speak candidly and straight at the heart of culture, and show us how to put on our “God glasses”, instead of our own “rose-colored” glasses.  Students, parents, schools, pastors, churches, youth groups…Brett Ullman is a “can’t miss” opportunity for you!

We have had the pleasure of having Brett Ullman minister to three very distinct parts of our Catholic school community.  He has spoken to: our entire student body; our students collectively on spiritual retreats and to a combined group of Catholic educators/parents.  Each group was moved by the powerful message that Brett carries.  A message of peace and comfort to those who suffer from the ill effects of contemporary media. Brett is undoubtedly a very gifted and motivational speaker that awakens the spirit to become aware and sensitive to the current issues that affect our youth.

...His ability to engage an audience by providing them with 'real' and up-to-date teen stories and info results in his young audiences taking much away from his presentation.  The students sat unbelievably still for a full 90 minutes as he shared a most important message of responding to the ever present media influences through their faith and beliefs.  I love that he challenges the students to think more carefully about day to day things that they usually just accept as proper...

~Tish K. Sheppard

The faith.media.culture presentation was an eye-opening discussion about the divide between our faith and culture.  Your passion for the subject was expressed clearly and the students really became engaged in your talk.  The real life statistics and stories you told really impacted us and made us question the way we live our lives.

~Intermediate Teachers
St. Marguerite Bourgoeys Catholic School

Brett engages his audience with a fresh dose of reality; creatively unwrapping some very important issues students face, exposing a rare opportunity for meaningful thought and reflection.  Within the context of faith, media and culture, Brett asks students to recognize their place in the world and to willingly recognize the need for making changes that are both positive and empowering.  Students will come away from his presentation with a new outlook on what many of us take for granted as just “growing up” today.

~Steven Beltrano

Brett's discussion on faith, media and culture was excellent! Father John Redmond students were engaged in Brett's informative presentation. His talk was relevant to teenagers and tackled issues that young people are dealing with. Brett is a powerful speaker with a lot to offer to us all. He challenges us by promoting the idea of doing something and really getting out there and making change in this world.
