Media.Faith.Culture - Parents 101

We recently had Brett Ullman give his media.faith.culture talk at our Sunday morning service and the talk was hard-hitting and difficult to hear at points, yet the response was overwhelmingly positive.  People of all ages were both challenged and encouraged to be the disciples of Jesus that we are all called to be.  Rarely have I heard such a clear call to be the people who God has created us to be, from both a cultural and Biblical perspective.  For anyone who wants to be both challenged and encouraged in what it means to be a follower of Jesus as a parent, grandparent or young person, I recommend that you to find a place to hear Brett speak.

~ Pastor Jeff Vandermeer
Immanuel Christian reformed Church - Simcoe

Our parent community had the pleasure of listening to an eye opening, powerful Media, Faith and Culture presentation by Brett Ullman. This engaging, dynamic speaker shows that he knows what he is talking about, based on his research and own life experiences. He is very motivational and engaged parents right from the get go. Brett took parents on a realistic and relevant journey that challenged the way we raise our children in today’s media-twisted society rather than through our faith and spirituality. The straightforward, hard facts were presented in a unique, powerful approach that informed and educated parents. We will never see the internet, listen to music, go to the movies or watch TV the same way again. Brett made us rethink our roles as parents, teachers, leaders and mentors to our children. Brett focused and encouraged parents to get our families back to an honest state of what is really important and how we should be living our faith based lives, rather than what the influence of various media forms and society are portraying as important. Brett Ullman is highly recommended if you have the opportunity to listen to him. Worth every dollar!

Brett is one of the most dynamic speakers I have ever heard on these topics. He speaks truth into everyday life by shining a light on the realities that youth and families are facing in today's culture. His talks are challenging, to the point, and provoke thought. Brett is in our calendar each year and he needs to be in yours too!

Self injury, media, dating; these topics can be quite sensitive for teen and parents. Brett does a great job at presenting information and a clear path for recovery and redemption for all ages. You may not "like" everything you hear, but that is only because we have become so comfortable in our own selves while missing all of the hurt and destruction surrounding us. Brett reminds us of this while remaining relevant to todays culture. One of his greatest strengths as a speaker, he can address a group from age 10 to 90 and cause the listener to see the need for change.

Brett's seminar was informative and thought provoking. As parents of a 10 yr old girl and a 13 yr old boy we need Brett's expertise to see into our kids world in areas we may not want to look. Blinders on our eyes will not help us to support and understand the environment our kids are moving in. Brett's Presentation is well-researched, straight forward and challenging. My husband and I left challenged to maintain open dialogue with our kids and stay informed. We look forward to the next seminar in our ongoing quest to support our kids.

This is a conversation that needs to take place. Too often as parents, we say we are understanding of what our kids are being exposed to. But a lot of what the media has to offer remains "out of sight" and "out of mind" because we may be too busy to truly know what is out there. Brett's parent talk encourages us as parents to "dig deeper", to truly understand the message and effects of media as it relates to our faith. We would encourage every parent to equip themselves with what Brett has to offer.

Brett's presentations are well-researched, and thought-provoking. He speaks on issues with clarity, courage and conviction. After working with him over the past several years, I can attest to that fact that he is always willing to accommodate a group's needs to the best of his ability. Every time he's come to our church, he's made himself available to talk to our students after his presentation, and even pray for them. He truly lives what he says.
