Media.Faith.Culture

Our World calls to us through our ipods, magazines, movies and television sets. Our Faith suggests our lives ought to reflect values and sentiments that often conflict with popular culture. Our God wants us to fit in, to share His love with others. How do we exist in an overwhelmingly media-saturated culture and what is our response to it? Rather than being involuntarily shaped by pop culture, how do we affect it?

Shaping the lives of young people today, Brett Ullman addresses teen topics including cutting, suicide, drugs, sex and violence in an open and straight forward manner. This youth-focused seminar is meant to open the eyes of participants to the trends in modern media, their potential effects on our lives and what a Christian response to this cultural paradox ought to resemble.

Are you a concerned parent? Check out the Parents 101 Talk!

Brett Ullman discusses, from a parent’s perspective, sensitive topics affecting today’s young people including cutting, suicide, substance abuse, sex and violence. Bringing hope and an awareness to today’s parents, Brett sheds light on how with increased knowledge of youth trends, adults can be more discerning in their parenting strategies and better able to anticipate the needs of their children as they navigate the often challenging waters of adolescence.

Brett was extremely well received at our first Girl Stuff conference, where he spoke to just over 60 girls/women of various ages from 12 - 80? This was very insightful for everyone, and extremely challenging spiritually as well. Brett was very well informed, and knowledgeable about the things he was talking about. We had a high school guidance department head present at the talk that was very impressed with Brett's talk. I have had nothing but positive feedback from people, who just want him to come back and talk to the rest of our congregation !! It was great. Thanks so much Brett.

We invited Brett to speak to our students and parents on faith, media, and culture. The talk with the students really challenged them to think about how they personally connect media (what movies they watch and what songs they listen to) with their faith. He asked some hard questions and, judging from feedback from some parents, he connected with them because they came home and discussed these things with their parents.

Later that evening, Brett spoke to the parents on the same topic. Again, he challenged them to connect with their children and guide them into make good decisions about their walk of faith.

Brett spoke with passion and with conviction. The best part was that he didn't just leave us hanging - he gave several practical suggestions on how to move forward.

Recently we had Brett Ullman at our school for his media.faith.culture presentation.  It was fabulous!  For 85 minutes he had a captive audience of 500 grade seven to twelve students. Rarely will our students be captivated for 30 minutes let alone 85. I had numerous students and parents comment that "This was the best speaker we have ever had". The message was powerful and the impact substantial. We are already making plans for Part II next year.
