We teach our kids to ask for help when they need it. As we watch our children mature we remind them, “If you ever need anything, just ask”. Yet as adults, when we really need help ourselves, we rarely ask for it. This is certainly true of me in my life. For years people have said to me, “If you ever want to do something but can't afford it, just ask”. There are a variety of reasons why I haven't directly asked for financial support until now, but let me be very clear: Now, I'm asking.
1. This year I wrote and published Worlds Apart's first book, media.faith.culture, available online at the Brett Ullman Store. This hard copy of my talk by the same name has already sold 500 copies despite it's limited availability. The parent version of this book is written and ready for editing, but $4000 is needed to pay for an editor's time and for printing. (FUNDED AS OF JUNE 2011 - THANKS)
2. I would very much like to begin authoring a third book addressing self-injury in adolescent culture. After receiving over 7,000 emails from students dealing with different aspects of self-injury, we decided to release a DVD entitled Your Story: The Wounding Embrace of which we've sold close to 1,000 copies. Similar to this DVD, there is a tremendous need to create a written resource that encourages these students and helps guide them on their road to hope and healing. The writing, editing and publishing of this project requires $12,000 in funding.
3. I am also asking you to consider funding the recording of my newest talk, the.man.talk. The.man.talk is a down to business discussion about being a father, husband and man of integrity in today’s society. The filming, editing and printing of this third talk will cost $3800. (FUNDED AS OF JUNE 2011 - THANKS)
4. Finally, for years I have been struggling to find Canadian statistics on self-injury, church youth populations and their interests. Studying these numbers can help Canadian Christian leaders better understand the evolving nature of the church and strategically plan for its successes. To support this gathering of data, we plan to create a tool that collects data through surveys initiated at my talks (since I see more than 50,000 Canadians per year). The information gathered would then be passed on to a professional analyst for impartial and practical assessment. Naturally, this data would be freely released to the Canadian Church so we can collectively reflect and plan as we build God's kingdom. The cost of this project approaches $12,000.
Worlds Apart has the opportunity to reach tens of thousands of teens, parents and leaders across Canada every year. I am asking you to consider financially supporting us as we pursue the initiatives above.
Donations can be assigned to a specific project or simply directed to our charity for discretionary spending.
